I'm planning to make sausage & peppers for a New Year's Eve party. I wanted to make it tonight, and then reheat tomorrow before the party (I have to work most of the day tomorrow so I want to get it done tonight). Is it safe to make it tonight and then put it in the crock pot to reheat a couple of hours before I serve it? (I was planning to serve it in the crock pot to keep it hot). Any other ideas are welcome.....TIA!

yeah!!! i've totally done that before many many times. if it's within 24 hrs it should be fine. if you make it before then, you may want to keep it chilled until you need to warm it again. since it's cold out now, if i make something and don't have room in the refrig, i put it in the garage on the ledge (lol) to keep it chilled and bring it in when i need it :)

I do it with chilli all the time. No problems yet.

It is actually recommended that this not be done. The temps supposedly don't get high enough to ensure food safety. Prior to reading the instructions for my crock pot, I had done it without incident, but decided to not do it again for the big party I was having.
