I'm looking for ideas. I'd like to construct something multipurpose -- some sort of play table with a curtain that could be a theater or store. Any ideas, pics, links to blogs, etc would be much appreciated!

I don't have photos but I made one for my classroom when I was a teacher. It was essentially a curtain that I hung in a doorway on a tension rod. There was one rod at the top of the curtain, and another under the hole (where the puppet show was done) to help it stay spread out.

I'm doing a crap job describing this but it was easy, just a rectangle of fabric with a hole cut in the middle and 2 little rod pockets. I made mine double sided with 2 different fabrics for fun but you don't have to.

Hope this helps a little!

I have made the puppet theatre in this book twice as gifts... It's really easy. I would check your library for the book or Michael's carries it (so you can use a coupon).

Here is alink to her blog to see an example.

That said there are lots of tutorials on how to make doorway theatre online.

Playstands would work for both purposes. They are bulky though so it depends on how much space you have.

DH made ours and it wasn't that hard. He included a canopy made with dowels (large sized ones) so it can be a playhouse too.

For the uprights you can trace an ironing board, which serves as a nice pattern.
