View Full Version : What top for this skirt??

I just got this skirt in the apricot color from STP. I thought I was all set for my cruise since we went last year to similar places at the same time. But then I was 7 weeks pregnant and now I am BFing. So none of my sundresses will work as I nurse Hailey fairly often. I thought this skirt looked cute and could be dressed up for dinner but also worn during the day on shore. But I have no clue what to wear on top - style wise or color wise. I have several tanks from Down East Basics that are my staples. But they are all neutral colors or brights that wouldn't work too well (black, white, cream, mint, royal blue). I have a cute linen ivory tank from Gap that is a bit dressier but it has just enough of a pattern in the fabric that I think it may clash with the appliques in the skirt. Any other suggestions? I'd love to pair it with something I already have if possible, but I am not sure where to start.

You don't think the cream or white tanks you already own would work?

They may. They are just plain Down East Basics Wonder Tanks.

So depending on the actual fabric of the skirt, I am worried they may be TOO casual. And too tight. These are very snug fitting tanks that I usually wear as an underlayer. I may be able to layer two if I could come up with another color though. I have a light blue one...would that work under the white as a hint of color? Could I pair it with my blue privo flip flops if they are the same blue, or is that too much?? I have these, although they are more blue than aqua like in the pic.

Other than cream or white, are there any other colors that would work? I think black (which is usually my go-to color) is too heavy for the Caribbean. I am not sure why I bought the skirt. It was an impulsive purchase. I got the skirt and an overland equipment bag to use as a diaper bag/purse for $26 total! I NEVER buy flashy colors like this because I have no clue how to wear them. I think the skirt is adorable but I am clueless as to what to pair it with. I guess I need to wait until I get it in hand and see how it matches with what I have.

Ill take any suggestions you can come up with though!

I love the skirt! It's so pretty. After looking at them, I think your tanks would be a little tight. At least, they would be for me.

Since I don't know what you look like, I was thinking what I'd wear with the skirt. What about a cute top like this? Although it might not be very dinner-time dressy, it's very cute for the day and you could certainly wear it again with a lot.

I know what you mean about black being a bit too heavy, but if you layered 2 of your camisoles, it might be fine. I was thinking cream and black. You could lighten the heaviness of the black with some pretty, coral, shell-type necklaces (don't they sell those necklaces cheap in the Caribean? ). We go to a resort in May every year and I'd wear a black camisole with that skirt in a heartbeat. And if they were layered, they wouldn't look so tight. And if you wore some black, strappy sandals with the skirt, your tanks and a seashell necklace, that'd dressy it up a bit probably too.

Have fun on your vacation!

Get a white tank from the Gap and call it a day. That skirt is darling!

I'd wear it with a white or black tank depending on the time of the day. Mint might work, too.

Love the second LE top linked to above (http://tinyurl.com/9pgnta) -- it even looks like it might open up at the neckline for nursing!

Adorable skirt! I have a gap skirt in a similar color, and I always wear a white short sleeved shirt or tank with it, with brown sandals. But you could probably do a blank tank if you wore cute black sandals too!
