We are moving and will have to use gates for the first time. We want to put permanent (not pressure mounted) walk through gates on the stairway (third step down from top and third step up from bottom). Any recommendations? Thanks!

We have the Kidco Stairway metal gate at the top and bottom of our stairs. We are very happy with them. The one at the bottom of the stairs we got 8 years ago (for our dog) and it looks brand new.

We have the Kidco Safeway mounted with this (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2967825) kit because we have banisters on both sides at the bottom of the stairs.

We don't have stairs :) but the ones I've thought were the easiest to deal with weren't actually ON the stairs, but down the hallway, blocking off a little landing to stand in before you actually make your way down the stairs. It seemed like an easier, safer route while you're already carrying a baby, laundry, or whatever. I don't like working with gates while I'm standing on a step.

We have this one http://www.mybabynews.com/store/shop_product.php?UPC=12489 (by Evenflo) and it has been great. We have been using it for at least three years.

Thanks, I will look into those! It is stairs into the basement, so walls on both sides thankfully. Installation shouldn't be too difficult. The stairs go directly into the playroom though, so can't put a gate anywhere except on the stairs at the bottom. There is a door at the top of the stairs, but we want a gate after it in the event that DD leaves the door open. Thanks again!

We have the cheap Evenflo wood ones & at $40, they can't be beat! We have had no issues with them, one at the top of the stairs, and one at the bottom.

Just want to put a plug in for Retract-a-Gate. Great for tight spaces. We've had them up for a year & they've held up great.

We have the First Years Stair Gate. Ours is 5 years old and still in great working conditon. It seems to get mixed reviews but we're very happy with ours.

I have two wooden Ikea gates (similar to the Kidco IIRC). Not sure if they are still making them but we've had them for 4 years or more now.
