I'm makiing brownies from the Costco Ghiradeli mix. I messed up the pans and thoguht I could only use an 8x8 or 9x9. I don't have those, so instead of using my 9x13 pyrex, which I COULD have used if only I'd read the simple directions properly, I used a 7x7 pan. It says 45 - 50 minutes for the 8x8 io 9x9. How long should i cook these for in the 7x7?

I would maybe cook a little longer than the directions for the other sizes as the mix will be deeper in a smaller pan than the larger ones so it will take longer to cook all the way through. Does that make sense? You can tell when it's done 1) it begins to crack across the top 2) you can stick a fork in the middle and the tines come out clean. I'm not quite sure how much longer, but maybe check it at 10 minute increments (after checking at 45 min.) ?

ita - longer and maybe at a lower temp

Thanks, Molly. The 45 minutes just ended. I checked it, and it had risen above the pan (!). A bit of cracking. I'll give it a little bit, then do the fork test.

eek! Sounds yummy though :) I'm doing my cooking for the week tonight, maybe I'll have to add brownies to the list now...

I just wanted to add that I am so glad you didn't use the 9x13!!! I love thick, gooey brownies and always use my 8x8. 7x7 sounds even better!

well, I cooked them for about 25 minutes longer than called for, so like an hour and 10 minutes or so. The center is still pretty gooey, but not raw. I'm not the biggest brownie fan, so this is only my 2nd time making brownies and not sure how they're supposed to come out. But DS loved his, and I like those chewey edges, so I guess they're ok. Thanks, again, guys, for helping my culinarily challenged soul!
