Evenflo Excersaucer assembly question

I just received the SmartSteps excersaucer as a gift, but when I began assembling it, I realized the screws were not fitting into their respective holes. They seemed to be much bigger. Has anyone had similar issues or is it just a defect in my product (or a defect in my being able to read instructions properly!)?
