View Full Version : Kid Girl Gymbo Happy Rainbow collection - $4.99!

I was in Gymboree this morning and almost everything from their KG Happy Rainbow collection (new spring line) was on sale for $4.99 per piece. Dresses, shorts, capris, tops...some great deals. I bought way too much and will probably end up returning some but couldn't pass up those prices. Not sure if it is a today-only sale or if it will run until the stock runs out...which will probably happen quickly given how people were snatching things up in the stores. Anyway, hope this helps someone!

Only a few of the shirts online are $4.99, but I did just call my closest store and they did confirm it. She was a little hesitant to tell me anything at first but when I came out and said I heard that the pieces were $4.99 , she did say yes and that it started today and they were all surprised about it. She did also say that word is getting out quick (no kidding).......

happy shopping!

I called my store around 11 this morning and she said they only had a few of the marked down pieces left at that time, so I bet most stores have nothing left at this point! I had tried to order online around 9am and stuff was disappearing like crazy out of my cart, so I didn't even bother to order.

From the gymbo staff I learned that the items marked down are the ones with rhinestones/appliques... and it all goes back to "Bankruptcy" day law about safety (what's it called again?). They are trying to sell out of them before February so they won't have to be tested. However, if stores get more of the line in, they will also be $4.99, so look out for that!

That's such a bummer to hear. Some of my daughter's favorites are the rhinestone/sequin pieces from Gymboree!!

This is such %$# on Gymbo's part! If the appliques are potentially unsafe, they should be taken off the shelves. Good to know this; I won't be running to the stores to stock up.

Makes me think we should all be questioning when select products are on massive markdowns in the next few weeks...

I do not by any means think they are unsafe. I'm referring to the new law which will require all items to be used by children to undergo stringent and expensive testing, beyond that of the original manufacturer. http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/37787954.html
Most people agree that the CPSC has taken things way too far this time, and the requirements are unreasonable, or at least far too broad and general. There is no reason whatsoever to assume that the items are unsafe, just that companies can't afford to re-test items they have already prepared for the market.
Just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about Gymboree; I think they are making a wise business decision and offering us deals at the same time!

Interesting about the rhinestones. Several of the items I bought do have them (and no, I'm not concerned about the safety in this case), but a lot of the ones for sale did not have any rhinestones or metal designs as far as I recall.

I was at Gymbo and scored last night (I had no idea about this sale and was just going to return something!). Everything $4.99 or less has at least one rhinestone on it. I scored huge. :)

It is the rainbow stripe one-piece. it has a flower on the back where the straps meets and the flower has rhinestones. It is sold-out online.

Thanks for the heads up OP! I went to do a return and ended up with 5 items at $4.99.

It was strange though the all white cardigan (no rhinestones) was also $4.99. I figured it might be good over her easter dress since it's so cold here. But I can't stand white b/c it gets dirty. But for $5...

I got her some capri jeans, a few tops, a dress and the sweater.

Thanks for posting this! I went by my local Gymbo today and picked up several pieces - including a raincoat - for $4.99.:yay:

I was talking to the sales associates and they said that there's a section of boys' denim that's also $4.99.

I noticed a few pieces that had a couple of rhinestones that weren't marked down and asked about it. They said something like they thought that the number of rhinestones and country of manufacture came into it, too. I don't know if that's true or not.

I think sales like this (prior to the Feb. 10 deadline) are the ONLY good thing coming out of the CPSIA. That law is about to make life VERY difficult for all us moms with young kids...particularly if you like to buy handmade/homemade children's products.

Agreed....not to mention all of the families that rely on selling such goods as income....

I went to my store this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised that they still had some stuff left. They did not have either of the cheap dresses or the raincoat. I had already place an online order, but they still had tons of shirts, shorts and capri pants at my store. They also had the rainbow swimsuits which I had already bought at GBR.

I got some great items today at my Gymboree.

I bought several capris, tops, jeans, 2 sleeveless dresses for my nieces, 1 striped cardigan zip up sweater, several rainbow bathing suits, rashguard shirts and 2 solid white button up sweaters all for 4.99 each.

Gymboree employee said it was chaos yesterday. She said they received a 32 page book of markdowns in the morning. She said word quickly got out about the sale.

Just have to thank the OP again. I went to another gymbo today and did get the bathing suit as well and noticed they had some pieces marked down from previous lines as well. A brithday tee (pink with a cupcake) some alligator shirts for 2.99 from the sunflower line. A pink/black zebra heart T and some valentines tops. Not too much in smaller sizes. I ended up with a lot of tops and not too many bottoms in my size. There was a great jean skirt that I was eyeing up from the rainbow line that did have rhinestones but no markdown? Some other pieces as well were not marked down....the associates and I could not figure out why-a rhinestone is a rhinestone , right???.

I thought the same thing was odd that most rhinestone pieces were marked down while a few were not. Most stuff is well picked over but I just got a 20% coupon in the mail that starts on Feb 1st so I'll have to see what they have left on that day.

I as in Natick yesterday. They still had lots of shirts, several jeans, a few white sweaters and several bathing suits and rashguard tops. I am not sure what the inventory is now, but you could always call if there is something in particular you are looking fror.

I need my DD to try on some items. I bought her jean capris and pink shorts with a button closure. Usually jeans and buttons are a no go, but I am hoping she will give these a try.

I lurk over at gymbofriends and they are saying that tomorrow (Friday the 30th) Gymbo will have stuff at $1.99. A lot of it looks like the Happy Rainbow that was just marked to $4.99 (at least that's what some folks are speculating/asked their manager about). That is so annoying as I just went today to pick up the cupcake birthday and the valentine shirt....

I wonder if they will do a price adjustment. Stupid, stupid Gymbo, why do I shop there, these games are killing me!

Strange-The manager at my usual store is subbing at the second store I went to and I have talked to her a lot this week but she said that "the printout of markdowns was a complete and total surprise this week" - how could people already know about the $1.99?.....

that totally sucks if it is true since I practically bought out whatever I could find in DD's size, so I won't be able to do a return/rebuy and I doubt they will price adjust.....

I am still bummed that some of the rainbow stuff with rhinestones was not marked down.

fyi-please be sure to check prior lines like I mentioned in a previous post, because I actually found pieces that the associates didn't know were marked down (I guess they weren't the ones who did the actual tagging!)

The SA at my store mentioned to the customer before me about "more sale stuff tomorrow" and honestly I didn't really register it. I did ask her about the Baby Sale and if they were getting in a new line before it started.

Anyway, I think the Gymbofriends folks are asking their SA/SM and some may have info., who knows?

OK I called the store, they were very secretive about it. They said more stuff would be marked down but they wouldn't do a PA. She said, "unfortunately I can't tell you what will be marked down".

The annoying thing is that how will they be able to tag all the stuff? It will be a huge guessing game as to what the heck is $1.99. Just like when I went in on Tuesday and I didn't realize what was $4.99.

I'm going to go in with my bag of stuff and see if I can either rebuy stuff or get a PA. It's all so foolish. :(

I would call your store to ask about the PA. On Gymbo friends some are saying they will be able to get a PA but my store said no, and who knows if the person I talked to knows squat. I know if my old manager was still there she'd help me out but we seemed to have turnover and I don't recognize anyone who works there now!

I was in Gymbo today and my favorite sales clerk told me that they received an email today letting them know that there will be a lot of additional mark-downs tomorrow, some things being $1.99. She wasn't sure exactly what was going to be included, but she thought that the spring shoes were going to be $1.99. She also told me to bring in my receipts because they would do price adjustments for the things I'd already bought for $4.99 & $3.99.

I was in the store tonight and I think the 1.99 stuff is the stuff that was 4.99. A lot of the stuff from that line is not included, so I would definitely call before worrying about a pa, it might not be worth the trip. The shoes that were 1.99 were the sandals with flowers on them. Not the polka dot flip flops.

So the items that are being marked down to $1.99 are the same items that were 4.99? I got several items for DD yesterday and went back today to return a swimsuit that didn't fit. All the 4.99 items were gone, but I plan to go back if different items are supposed to be marked down.

I think so because several things were not marked down at all and weren't going to be and then the stuff that was 1.99 had 4.99 tags on it. They were marking it for tomorrow so they did a price override for me.

Yes, it was mainly the same Happy Rainbow items. There were a handful of other things, like long sleeved shirts from the Wild One line, (pink/black zebra) but my store does not have any of the items anyways.

There is also supposed to be a $1.99 sale at the outlet if anyone is nearby one.

I got a price adjustment today with no problems. I called the 800 customer service number and they confirmed that you can get price adjustments in the store if it's within 7 days. MOst of the tags in my store still read 4.99 but I said that I had heard that alot of it was 1.99 and they said yes, if you have your receipt we'll do a price adjustment. I got my PA this morning. The SA was so nice. I brought the clothes in case but I just needed the receipt. I got about $23 back and spent another $22.

The SA (maybe she's the manager, not sure) told me that in the future they will always honor a PA within 7 days. I didn't use a coupon.

They had all the clothes in bins and racks in the back of the store. It was starting to get crazy with people before noon. I think I got there just in time. I hope DD likes these clothes for next year. I got all tops, there weren't any pants in her size (although I rarely buy Gymbo pants, I just put tops with plain ON jeans).

Anyay nothing was marked $1.99, just on racks or bins that were marked. There were a few things from the newer Fashion Flower line too, but mostly bigger sizes.

So yes, go for a PA, it really was no trouble and as a PP said, I just inquired and they were happy to do it.

And I can't believe i got all these tops for $1.99, seriously I usually get excited over $1.99 socks at Gymbo! Crazy :)

I actually saw the red turtleneck, it was in the $1.99 bin. Our store didn't have any of the Petite Mademoiselle stuff left. I'm not sure about the black pants, sorry, I guess I'm not much help!

It's difficult b/c most of the stuff on line is gone so you can't really tell what's been marked down. My receipt did show some of the items as "promotion sale -$3.00" instead of ringing up straight as $1.99 (Fashion Flower item, which I didn't think was on sale the other day, but I didn't check)

I actually ended up with a top that wasn't marked down "I love Recess" at $4.99. She asked me if I still wanted it and I said yes b/c I was too embarassed to say no. I'll probably return it.

Took my number and told me she would call back to confirm they could PA. Well, I never heard back but just called and spoke with her. Not only will they do the PA, which I kind of knew but she has a pile ready for me in my size. All tops though, no bottoms left in my size. I am so excited. Hope no one takes my pile before I get there!

to be more. I had purchased a couple of full priced boxer briefs for my
son and the price adjustment messed up the price on them.

So I have $3 more dollars coming to me.

I already called them but I am kind of ticked about it. Now I have to drive
all the way back over to the mall to get the $3 (if I want it.) My DH will
tell me it's not worth the gas money.
So because of their screw up I didn't get my full PA but if I want the full
PA, I have to spend more of my money to go get it.
