My DD is totally ready for flouride toothpaste, but I can't find any she likes. I've even resorted to the gimicky ones with Sesame Street and Disney princesses on the tubes (even though they have red and blue dye!! yuck!) just to get her to use some flouride toothpaste!!!

Any suggestions? Natural would be great, but I'm thinking they probably don't taste that great.

BTW She detests any kind of mint flavor (just in general). Pretty tall order, I know!

TIA!

PS She does have a flouride tablet each day since she is not getting it in her toothpaste nor in our drinking water (we have a well).

DS1 uses the Toms of Maine orange mango children's toothpaste w/fluoride. It's not minty as my DS doesn't like mint either. There's also strawberry flavor but I'm not sure whether there is a fluoride version. (I know there is a non fluoride strawberry one.)

DD1 uses the Tom's of Maine orange mango. Their strawberry comes both flouride-free and with flouride, but as she had used the flouride-free strawberry we wanted to use something different so she'd remember to spit instead of swallow. We might switch back to the strawberry when she's done with this tube if she wants. I can't stand minty toothpaste either, and use the Tom's cinnamint flavor. It's much more cinnamon-y than minty, if she's not into the fruit flavors either.

Sarah :)

We use the the strawberry one w/flouride. DS loves it SO much that I have to get the toothbrush ready otherwise he would load it up and it is like 4 bucks a tube! ;)

Tom's makes strawberry in both flouride and non-flouride. DD used the non-flouride type until she was 4. I picked strawberry mainly because it was easy to find in both types and she wouldn't need to get used to a new flavor.

DS uses Strawberry with no flouride. We tell them apart by putting stickers on the caps.

DD hated all toothpaste until we tried the watermelon colgate one. I have tubes of Tom's, princesses, Dora, all in my drawer - failed experiments.

Tondi, is spitting necessary for Xylitol use?

My DD hated brushing her teeth til we got a free sample of the toothpaste at our ped dentist office. The dentist developed this toothpaste when her own son got old enough to brush his teeth. LOL.

we have (and LOVE) Cha Cha Chocolate and Banilla Bling.

(ETA: you do have eto spit all but the Baby Bling flavor. )

Highly recommend this toothpaste.

Xylitol is just a sweetener, isn't it?

I'm quoting my old post to say that I noticed today that Tom's contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Since I avoid SLS in our other home and beauty products, I was pretty disgusted that I've been putting it in my kids' mouths.

At WF, I found a "Sparkle Berry Blast" toothpaste with flouride and xylitol but no SLS. I'll report back on how DD likes it.

Yep, just a sweetener. I mean, w/ toothpaste it would depend on what other ingredients were in there in terms of whether it is okay to swallow, but I know my DD doesn't spit her xylitol toothpaste out.

Xylitol in larger amounts can make for loose-ish poop ,but I don't think the amount in toothpaste would case that problem.

Xylitol is toxic to dogs though, so if you have a dog, just keep it out of reach.

(eta: fwiw, we bake with xylitol...mostly erythritol, but sometimes xylitol).

Good to know, I will have to take a look for it. We just started Feingold and the TOM Strawberry was the only one in the local store (not wf) without dyes. :(

We use the Weleda kids tooth gel. It does not have flouride in it though. I am choosing not to do flouride for our family (kids and myself) Our water is flouridated.
