We bought this for DS a few das ago and he absolutely loves it.

Unfortunately, we are unimpressed with the quality. The hammer is already starting to splinter! Does anyone have something similar (in wood) from another brand?

We really like that it has so many pegs, and also that you can turn it over to repeat the "game."

We have one from Ryan's Room. We bought it several years ago, and it has held up great! No splintering or chipping.

I believe Plan Toys makes one as well. I don't have it so I cannot comment on the quality but I do tend to like the quality of Plan Toys in general.

My mom had this :http://cgi.ebay.com/FISHER-PRICE-KID-POWERED-HAMMER-BABY-BENCH-ACTIVITY-TOY_W0QQitemZ350160408729QQihZ022QQcategoryZ100225 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
And Jack loved it. It's from when my cousins were little...I wish I still had the wooden one from my childhood.

Melissa and Doug has excellent customer service so I think if you call them, they'll send you a new one.

JTsMom, do you have this one from Ryan's Room? This is the only one I found so far from that brand.

What do you all think of this one? Do you think the edges of the hammer are too sharp since they don't seem to be rounded?

The one from Plan Toys only has three pegs. My DS has figured out how to hammer all eight pegs on the M&D bench and it takes him less than a minute, so I figure that three pegs won't be enough.

What about this one from IKEA for $5.99!? It looks exactly the same as the M&D one, except that the hammer edges are not rounded.

Are you familiar with Holgate toys? They have classic wood toys. There is a pounding peg toy on their web site.

Way back before the Internet, I somehow found out about this company because DH (then BF) wanted the trolley from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. We still have that trolley, and it is still beautiful. It's not used as a toy, though.

Yep, that's the one. IIRC, we bought it from Target, and it was on super clearance. It was probably back in 05 or 06.

my little guy has one from Target that was in-store (can only find M&D online) -- I believe it was their Circo brand, it looks almost exactly like the M&D one, but the corners on the hammer are rounded... if you have a Target near you, they have an aisle with all-wood toys by Parents & Circo in-store where you can find it as well as other wood toys for a reasonable price

Thanks. I think I'll orde the one from Ryan's Room. Thatg one from Plan Toys only has four pegs and I think DS will get bored.

oh yeah, I was thinking the wooden ones were pegs, but they are legs. Sorry- thought I'd found a different one!
