View Full Version : Experience with or opinions on "safe" (PFOA-free) nonstick cookware?

Every once in awhile, while making pancakes or attempting to make an omelet on my SS pans, I think that a nonstick pan might be handy.

I recently saw in the Sur La Table and Crate and Barrel catalogs that they are offering "PFOA-free" cookware.

Here's an example: http://www.surlatable.com/product/cookware/skillets/scanpan%26%23174-+professional+nonstick+skillets%2C+8%26%2334-.do?search=basic&keyword=pfoa&sortby=ourPicks&page=1

The blurb says that you can use with metal utensils. I'm wondering if that means they don't get scratched easily? My main gripe with Teflon pans is now easily the black stuff flakes off.

If anyone has these PFOA-free nonstick pans and can comments, I'd love to hear experiences.

I don't have any advice but am really interested too. A non-stick pan would be so nice but I've been scared away from them for so long...

I have the Cuisinart Green Gourmet 12" pan. I've been using it for 6 months, and LOVE it! It works just as well as any other traditional nonstick pan. Eggs slide right out of it.

Now granted, I would never dream of using metal utensils in a nonstick pan, so that I haven't done. Most of my utensils are bamboo or wooden.

It was $59 (?) at Bed Bath and Beyond, but I used a 20% coupon so that helped.

Take a look at some of the links in this thread:

I meant to write above that I'm not a fan of cast iron.

I hadn't heard of the Green Gourmet. I'll look into that one too.
