are you thinking a one piece mat or foam tiles like these? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9730238

I've seen large foam tiles that interlock (just like the ones you see at Toys R Us or in the link from the pp), but in all black at Costco for really inexpensive. They are in the automotive section and I want to say you get a pack of 6-9 pieces that are about 2 feet squares for around $12-13. Not bright and colorful for the baby to look at, but also not gaudy in your home. Too bad my kids were past that age when I discovered them!

SAMs club has it. I think it's $10 or so for 8 big blocks.

Our Costco (CT) has them in colors, as well as plain black.

Also BJ's had the color and the black squares. We also had the alphabet mats- would not recommend as DS would pop the letters out and chew on them- so did my nephews!

TRU has blue ones from Step2. Not sure of the price but they are in packages of 2. Target also has some in the exercise section. We got black ones from there years ago, but I saw colored ones there recently.
