My godson's fourth birthday is approaching, and his mom told me that he's really starting to enjoy jigsaw-type puzzles. Any suggestions on really nice jigsaw puzzles for his age group? TIA!

ETA: I don't know why I put that he's a boy in the title...it doesn't matter, obviously.

Barnes & Noble usually has a decent puzzle selection for that age in their children's area. Here is an example of what is there:

Hope that helps!

We have some made by Shure that have 4 puzzles in a wooden box. I found them at Marshalls, but that can be hit or miss. This is one that we have:

Here's the main page - the "puz box" section is about halfway down:

I like all the Melissa and Doug puzzles as well as the Crocodile Creek ones. I think ones with 24-40 pieces are great at this age. My DS is 3.5 and he LOVES puzzles and he can do the 36 piece ones with a little help -- he has been working with them for a while.

Find out where he's at - he'll be bored with 12pc puzzles if he's already doing 40-50 pc puzzles, and frustrated with 50pc puzzles if he's still doing 12pc puzzles. I get really nice quality puzzles for my boys at Marshall's or TJ Maxx (Melissa and Doug or Ravensburger primarily).

My son turned 4 in November. He loves puzzles. We have mostly Melissa and Doug floor puzzles now. They have beginner ones that have 25-50 pieces and others up to 100 pieces.

I would get one at his current level and one that will challenge him.

My son can do the 48 and 100 piece puzzles on his own now. I like this brand because they're huge usually 2-4 feet long and the cardboard pieces are thick, fit well together and are durable. Often times after the puzzle is complete it becomes the backdrop to some imaginary play with figures.

I would definitely find out his level. My nephew was a puzzle master and was easily doing 24 piece puzzles at age 2-3. My DS is 5 and also loves puzzles but often struggles with them and needs my help when doing a 50 piece. As for what to buy, I really like the M&D and Ravensburger puzzles. I usually buy all our puzzles from Ross.

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll have to ask my BF how many pieces are in the ones he's currently enjoying.

In addition to the brands mentioned above, we also really like Mudpuppy puzzles.
