Hi,

I want to buy someone a Visa, Mastercard or Amex gift card, but every where I look the fees are so high! For a $50 Amex card it is a $4.95 fee!

Does anyone know how or where to buy one without the fee? We have an Amex card. We also belong to AAA -would either of those help?

TIA!

Over the holidays AmEx waived the fees for cards bought online at americanexpress.com... I'm not sure if they're still doing it, you could check it out. And they did a free shipping upgrade, so we saved like $30 total.

It's so irritating to pay the $4.95, especially when you have the card! Makes me nuts.

We bought some over the holidays at our bank (Commerce/TD) and there was no fee.

I was going to say the same thing about TD Bank. I think the 'no fee' thing for them is year-round?

You can get them at Walmart for a $3 fee.

www.americanexpress.com is charging $3.95 per card, and a $5.95 shipping fee! CRAZY! What a racket!

It looks like Walmart could be my best option.

They have them at our local grocery--Kroger--but not sure about the fee. At least you'd save the shipping.

I just saw in next week's Rite Aid ad that they have them for $9.95 with a $9.95 rebate, so essentially free.

I would avoid the am ex gift card- we always have trouble when we try to use them. Like it you have $100 gift card and go to a restaurant, when they try to use the $100 it will instead only let them do part of it for a tip or something?? Restaurants complain about it- it happened to us just last night! Also anywhere else you use it, if they don't have the ability to enter the charge for the exact card balance, it will be rejected entirely. Never had these issues with a visa gift card. I would go get a free one at Commerce/TD.

I had that problem with a Simon Mall Visa Gift Card. That's a good point...
