I also did and just happened to check my credit card statement online and noticed that I have charges that I did not put on my credit card. So, check your cards!

Can you elaborate on what happened with this scam? I haven't heard of a scam involving Once Upon a Child. TIA!

Wow Stacey. It sounds like this has been a nightmare. I hope things are resolved in a manner than you feel ok about in the end. Sad b/c OUAC had a good reputation.

I think OP is talking about the diaper scam from a website that was pretending to sell diapers for really cheap, not the "Once Upon a Child" used clothing store.

Here's the thread. The site was "Everything for Child."

Ah yes, Everything for Child....it got me, too. I had 3 strange charges on my card....sports equipment, cosmetics, and Virgin cell phone. Have a new number now and am sticking to B&M stores for my pampers. Live and learn, as my grandma used to say!

What if you use one of those single use Paypal cards? Are those pretty safe?

So sorry...thanks for correcting the name of the so-called company. I am going to start checking my credit card activity daily.

At the time that this happened, it was recommended that everyone cancel their card and get a new number from the credit card companies. If anyone has not done so yet, now is the time!! And call the credit card company to let them know about the fraudulent charges - they will remove them and get you a replacement card (w/ a new account number) quickly. They'd much rather do that than risk more fraudulent charges.

That is exactly what I did and this popped up on my new card #. When I called today, they told me that anything that was set up while I still had the old number "Rolled over" to my new number. I explained the situation and specifically requested a new number for that reason but with Discover that does not seem to be the case. Also, they did not even seem to care that someone unauthorized was using my card. They told me that they put the amount on hold so it is not part of my bill until the look into the situation. They also told me that they do not prosecute and it would be up to me if I was to get ahold of them and press charges.

Charges showed up on my AmEx this past bill. They charged classified ads on mine. I had gotten a call last month asking if I placed an ad for paying people for texting. I thought that was weird, but now I get it.

Oh wow. That sucks! Could you just cancel your current card and sign up for a new one?

Guys, I am sorry this happened to you. I wasn't involved in the scam, but this whole "identity theft" phenomenon scares the he!! out of me. I haven't had it happen yet.

I hope the cc issues are resolved quickly.

Until then, here is the info to get your credit reports:

http://www.equifax.com/contact_us/en_us
http://www.transunion.com/corporate/personal/consumerSupport/contactUs.page
http://www.experian.com/customer_service/mail.html

You can put a fraud alert on your credit file.

My parents had a similar thing happen with Discover card a while back. They ended up with someone's charges for gas stations in a state they'd not been to. Discover said they couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it.

I'd try to find out exactly what your rights are when it comes to what Discover is and isn't responsible for. (I'm not sure who exactly you'd contact though.) My parents found out after paying off and canceling their Discover card, that Discover was in fact legally responsible for verifying the charges and removing them if they were invalid.

I am a big Discover card fan- I have had this happen as has my mother, in both cases they put a hold on the charges to investigate and then removed them promptly. If they do not do this for you, call back and ask to speak with the fraud dept! That is BS!

I had charges show up on my AmEx. Thet were great, and total removed them, no problem. I feel so stupid for having charged there in the first place, I knew it was too good to be true. I should have listened to my gut. Funny note, they ordered a make up brush and had it sent to me, not the brightest scamers

Was the makeup brush from elf cosmetics? I haven't had any charges show up but I have had two things from elf come for me that I didn't order.

It's possible that the make-up brushes, etc., were ordered to "test" your credit card and see if it was a valid card number that could then be used for other fraudulent charges. A lot of times, people who run phishing and other similar scams don't use the credit card numbers they collect -- they sell them. The buyers buy whole lists of them, and then test them with small charges to see what goes through.

I received all over color stick from ELF that I don't remember ordering. I also found charges from IHERB.COM on my January statement even though I never heard of the company before.

I JUST got an E.L.F. package delivered to me today - ordered 3.26 - I did NOT order it. Just went online to check my AmEx account, and lo and behold there were three charges, including the ELF charge, that were not mine. We had a Venture charge (they sell mailing list names) and a Virgin Mobile charge, same as a PP. When we called, there was also another charge from inkjet.com that hadn't yet posted. Needless to say, I was keeping an eye out for something like this, and it just started this past week. Just a reminder to either check your accounts or cancel your card if you tried to place an order at this website.

As an aside, could their be any identity theft issues with just a stolen CC? I'd think someone would need your SS#, too, in order to do anything other than place orders, but I want to make sure there aren't some other concerns out there of which I should be aware.

They had a makeup brush from elf sent to me too. I guess that was their test. I don't think they could steal your identy this way but after watching 60 minutes last night I'm sure all my information is already out there :32:
