we have the bob duallie for my car, but dh needs something for himself. i am looking at the jeep wrangler double (umbrella type), for it's compact fold and cheapo price.

please don't tell me mcclaren. i know people are crazy for those here. it will possibly be forgotten in the truck bed and used VERY minimally. i am open to used. tia

I would definitely try craigslist and freecycle first of all. Your best bet is used, for sure.

The lowest MSRP on a lightweight double that I know of is probably the double jeep (I actually like the original brand, called Kolcraft, better so you might look for it used). http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3082737
If you have a babydepot nearby this one also gets good reviews (It is OOS online):

It was around $80 or so as I remember.

If this is going to get used very rarely, you might consider two cheap umbrella strollers and these:

It's nothing you want for everyday, but I think for ocassional use when space is an issue it might be worth considering.

Look for a Kolcraft/Jeep. They are decent! Had the Kolcraft Double Reclining Umbrella version and it was actually very likable. You can probably find them used pretty easily in the local paper.

A Graco SBS might work if you can deal with a flat fold. They can be found used often.

Stay away from the Avalon. It steers terribly and has a super low weight limit (30lbs per seat). We tried it when my first was less than 30# and the frame was bending and impossible to steer. It also has a flat fold, not umbrella.

The stroller connectors are good in theory but not in reality. Even when the children are the same weight they are difficult to deal with, when they are different weights they tend to push at slightly different rates making it altogether impossible to steer (even with Macs!). Forget the width factor even. My dh would have left that set up in the truck bed purposely if given the chance and made the kids walk.

Jeep/Kolcraft is your best bet if you are buying new though. Some of their models don't recline at all, others have a minimal recline position so be careful when you choose.

I know nothing about this one but this fits the lower price bracket.

Oh and here is the Graco I meant. It is one of the only Gracos I really have liked over the years.

If you don't care about the umbrella fold, maybe get a jogger to leave in the truck. Craigslist often has Insteps and BabyTrends for around $100.

thanks all. we are back to the drawing board. saw a jeep, pushed it, liked it, found out the weight limit is 35lbs. ds is 32 right now. won't take us very far.

i noticed the dream on me, but can't seem to find a weight limit anywhere. if you know, or can find it, much appreciated.

also will continue to look for a double jogger on craigslist, that's a great idea.

if you guys think of anything else, let me know. thanks.

And you really, really, don't want one of the much higher quality Mac Twin Triumphs for $199 at Albee Baby right now? It is such a bargain (2009 are $265) and my guess is that if you EVER travel with your two DC over the next 3-4 yrs, you'll want something decent with a good push and a higher weight limit. You'll be able to use it for a lot that the BOB won't do elegantly.

you are too funny!! elegantly! :ROTFLMAO:we NEVER travel. dh and i are homebodies and really never travel, i mean never. we have 8 siblings combined that all live within 5 minutes as do all the grandparents. so nice and convenient.

i knew someone, lol, would mention a mac, how could anyone here resist.

joking aside, you guys are great. really just want to keep it cheap. i can't imagine a mac in the back of a p/u truck possibly getting rained on. oh puke!!
