Hi. We're looking to book a vacation that involves an 11 hour plane ride with our 6 month old. We can either book a flight that leaves at midnight or one that leaves during the day sometime. At first I thought of booking the midnight flight and DS would just sleep the whole time, but now I'm wondering what would happen if he doesn't sleep and is just completely cranky because he's overtired...maybe then it would be better just to take the day-time flight and have him be awake. It'll mean entertaining him the whole time and we wouldn't be able to relax ourselves (but then again, who actually relaxes on a plane?). WWYD?

I've done both day and night flights with my boys. As infants, they seemed to sleep whatever time the flight was. However, when flying somewhere with a really big time difference, I find the day time flights to be better. It's easier to adjust the kids for the new time zone. When I fly from the US to Germany, a US day time departure usually leads to a German morning arrival (9 hour time difference). The kids wake up and it's like they've had a full night's sleep.

During the day would be my vote.

During the day would be my vote.

My son has never slept well on the plane, even his first trip at 5-ish months.

And if he's going to be awake and cranky, I'd rather it NOT be when it would be bothering other passengers trying/expecting to sleep.
