we are going on a trip where we will be renting a home with a swimming pool. while i would never leave my kids in the pool without either myself or dh in the pool with them, i would like something just as an extra measure of security while they are in there as both kids can't swim yet. they've only taken about 4 lessons thus far (they are 5 and 3 yo). any suggestions? what do you think would i need a life vest, or those tot trainer things and if so any links to particular brands that have worked for you would be helpful! thank you!

The best thing to get is a personal flotation device (PFD).

I'd probably get a "real" life jacket if they can't swim.

REI sells the Heads up PFD that we use while at the GPs' house. They aren't nice for swimming,b/c they make the kids float on their backs, but for walking around the pool deck, they're great. We have the 30-50 lb one and two of the under 30 lb ones.

I would get a real life vest too. That is my plan for the summer with ds2, just for a bit of added peace of mind.
