View Full Version : Help! Water is staining my microfiber couch

It just started happening since I had the couch cleaned by Sears. I have had it professionally cleaned one other time. The couch is about 4 years old and we had originally bought it with some fabric protection (I think), we at least had the warranty on it. I have voided the warranty b/c it required professional cleaning every 3 months and since that cost $130 (it's a 3 piece sectional) that was unreasonable.

I have no idea what I can do to stop this from happening. Why did it just start happening? And I don't know how to clean it either. It's fabric cleaning code is SW, I think (I know the W for sure because it was one of my criteria). That implies to me that water should be able to clean the couch, not stain it.

The baby spilled a cup of water on it Sunday and there is a *huge* stain now. Ugh!

I don't have any experience with this, but my guess is that the last time you had the couch cleaned they didn't get all of the soap out of the fabric and the water is making a soap ring. This often happens with carpets when they don't rinse thoroughly enough. I'd be tempted to steam clean the whole thing again with no soap.

We love our microfiber couch. It still looks brand new after 4 years and everything just comes right out. I even managed to clean ballpoint pen off of one of the cushions with Purell.

This is my guess, too. Have you seen the Bissell Little Green? http://www.bissell.com/Products/c/PortableDeepCleaner/p/LITTLE+green+COMPACT+MULTIPURPOSE+CLEANER/product.aspx?MSCSProfile=2EB09F17E7A640E9CB747DEC0 4C54923C739E505A6A7500482BABEEAB4737E47F41CEA4ECC9 1C747AE45309AE6A2DB9559ED65C985A80E8A2FCE8E2379D4D 77EC278D9FBFB8135DBF2BB7C3D7FB3331B2A9CC950D517A34 7DAEA83B41E564E74FC16B96227552BF06F9DA7F993DA02A67 44FED25A73219AD9894F29C543815D6450244A1A17EB755-

I've heard it's good for cleaning upholstery. Maybe you could use it with just water and that would help. I know Kohls usually has them online and you could find a 30% off code and a free ship code to make it pretty cheap with a Kohl's charge. I am planning on getting one soon!

You've confirmed my idea. My mom has one of those Little Greens that I can borro.

It can't get much worse so I will try!

I've gotten water marks on my microfiber couch too. I just re-scrub the entire cushion and it goes away. I would love to get one of those Little Green machines!

Can you let us know if it works. I've got a microfiber couch too.

I clean my couch with water only (that and a microfiber cloth removed sharpie off the couch). The trick to getting it to look the same after cleaning is taking a gentle baby hairbrush and brushing the nap of the microfiber in various directions to get it fluffed up again. Once I discovered that, you can't tell where I've cleaned it.
