We're new at the solid foods and my pediatrician told me I could give my baby yogurt. But I thought that babies couldn't drink milk until 1 year old. Why is yogurt any different?

Dairy products are fine (yog, cheese, and the like). It's just that when you replace breastmilk/formula with cow's milk that you run in to problems early on. Cow's milk doesn't give your baby enough vit E, iron or fatty acids, and gives TOO much protein, sodium and potassium.

Again, it's fine to feed yog, cheese, etc., because you're not giving in the volumes that would cause a problem.

HTH!

I guess I think 7 months is a little early for yogurt, but we have a dairy allergy that runs in the family. I thought it was closer to 9 months (for non allergic) to try yogurt. I think yogurt and cheese are more easily digested than cow's milk. Anyway, yes to what pp said about not replacing bm or formula with cow's milk.

IIRC, our pediatrician gave yogurt the ok at 9 months.
