DH and I are going on a long weekend vacation next week (first time away from DD's for more than 1 night in 5 years!!). Have about 8 hours of flight time. Any time on the ground will be spent with DH and friends (destination wedding).
I would say I am a fairly fast reader. I like both fiction and non fiction. Never read a cheap romance novel and don't really plan to.
Any suggestions?

I really like The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri so much so that I couldn't wait to go get her other books to read them. I'm also reading Mrs Kimble by Jennifer Haigh and have found that interesting. I read Haigh's other book The Condition and liked that as well. As you can see I love to find an author I like and then keep reading books by them. Have a good flight & time at the wedding!

I'd go for The Red Tent or anything by Phillipa Gregory

I was completely absorbed by The Falls between Joyce Carol Oates.

I just read The Glass Castle while on a couple of child free flights and car rides. A fast read and I enjoyed it.

I just read "American Wife" and really enjoyed it. It took me a long time because I can't seem to find long blocks of time to dedicate to reading. But if you are a fast reader, I think you can get through it.

I picked this book up at the airport and found it a great read. Not so engrossing you can't put it down, but definitely good enough to keep you entertained. Plus you would probably read it in 8 hours, so you wouldn't have to buy another book plus you'd be done by the time you came home. :)

Have fun!

Outlander or Mutant Message from Down Under.

I'm onto the Sookie Stackhouse series, from recommendations here. (Vampire series that inspired True Blood on HBO.) Definitely fluff, entertaining, good airplane reading. You could probably get through 2 in 8hrs!

I second the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Even if you're not normally into vampires. They're funny as hell, and there is sex.......... what more could you want from a vacation read? :)
