The first one you read to him/her? I have no idea with DD, but thought some of you mamas may remember.
I want to know because I thought it would be nice to bring a book to the hospital to read to DD and DS together after he is born. I'm just a little stuck on which to bring. DH will probably flip if I want to buy yet another thing for the birth, but I can't help it!

I still tear up when I read it to them. Some people do not like it at all though.

Same here, I LOVE that book. More than my kids, but hey newborns don't understand anyway.

:yeahthat: We had so many books for DS that I can't really say which was the first, but that one is great.

I have a picture of DH reading Very Hungry Catepillar to him. I'm thinking that was probably the first book.

I remember reading HUG over and over. The first book DD was really interested in had faces of babies-she loved that book.

A little different, but we gave this book http://tinyurl.com/yotxz3 to dd when we told her she was going to be a big sister and we have pics of her reading it to ds in the hospital.
If you want to do the reading, the pp's rec is good or maybe snuggle puppy?

We started "reading' this to Adam when I was about 5 months pregnant...;)

It's a cute book, and to this day he really perks up whenever we read it.

I know the dang thing by heart. We read it EVERY.DAY.

A friend brought a copy of "The Going to Bed Book" by Sandra Boynton when she met DS for the first time. It has been well read over the years!

The Little Engine that Could. We bought it in the hospital gift shop and it is a favorite of both me and Dave.

We started reading this to DS in the womb and packed it for the hospital! When we read it to him for the first time and got to the very last page, he SIGHED the most contented SIGH. No joke! DH and I just looked at each other with, "No way did that just happen." :)

Us, too. :) I still tear up while reading it, even though we only read it occasionally now.

Our 2nd book was 'Goodnight Moon'. How funny that many of us read the same things.

Another for Goodnight Moon. Her first favorite book was Goodnight Gorilla, though. She taught herself to whistle at around 11 months by copying the startled woman's face and breathing in and out. She can still do it, cracks everybody up!

I brought "Daddy Cuddles" and "Charlie Parker Plays Be-Bop" board books to the hospital and gave them to my DH as a little gift for him and the new baby. I am not sure either of them were particularly gung-ho but I did my part for early childhood literacy.

As to the first books DS paid attention to as a baby: in early infancy, under 3 months old, he paid attention to the books with the photos of babies (I think ours was called smiles or baby smiles) and he liked the Brown Bear book alot.

No way! We have both these books and read them to her as a baby. I don't know anyone else with Charlie Parker Plays Bebop. Another jazz baby - yeah!

The Boynton books were the first ones we read to our girls. The shorter ones, like 1-2-3, Dinosaurs, Opposites.

The Napping House. I read it while I was pregnant and then after. As he got older, his favorite became Good Night Moon and The Going to Bed Book.
