Not that I'm a huge vampire lore fan but I found the Twilight series very entertaining. So much so that my 30+ something mind started putting itself to sleep with fairly vivid and romantic dreams of my own special Cullen family. I realize the series was written for teens but it worked for me. Perhaps not the most eloquent or sophisticated writing but it definitely served its purpose - to entertain.

So now that I've finished the Twilight series I'm wondering what to read next.

I rarely get to read and so when I do have the chance, I like to be thoroughly entertained - not enlightened. Simply entertained - taken away to some place far from my mundane reality. So you will never catch me reading nonfiction. But my tastes range from Sense and Sensibility to Twilight. I guess its more the romance than the supernatural. But I'm not really interested in the smutty romance - more the find your soulmate kind of romance novel.

Any suggestions?

I read the Outlander series after Twilight. I LOVED it. It's a little more graphic than Twilight in the romance department, but it's not smutty. I read a lot, and I recommend the Outlander series to a lot of people who ask your question.

If you loved Edward...you'll LOVE Jamie!!!

Oh, definitely read the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's what HBO's True Blood is based on. It's the same genre, but more geared towards adults.

Thanks to multiple recommendations here, I started in on the Sookie Stackhouse series after Twilight. True Blood on HBO is based on the series.

It's more vampires, but for adults so a little more smut. But not too bad IMO. Total mindless fluff, definitely entertaining!

ETA: hey mommylamb, posting at the same time!! :)

Twoboos- How far into it are you? I thought the first two books were ok, but not great, but then they got really good. I had bought the first 7 that came together as a set, so I've read all of those. The 8th is out in paperback and the 9th in hardcover, but I haven't bought them yet becuase now I'm reading t he second in the Twilight series (which I like, but I'm not as big of a fan as a lot of other folks).

Not vampires, but I LOVED the Golden Compass series. It's also teen lit, but I thought is was so engaging and interesting philosophically (definitely delves into religion as you progress through the books). I couldn't put them down.

I also bought the set of 7! I need to start 6 next. I keep getting the notifications from Amazon that 8 & 9 are available, and I'm trying to control myself and finish these first. :) The series is like a bag of chips - once you start you can't stop!

A big bag of chips... an excellent description.

I also read the Golden Compass series and liked that... and I've read Harry Potter... maybe I read more teen lit than is good for me.

oooohhhh, I've been wondering the same thing! I became mildly obsessed with Twilight and read the series three times in a row before DH tried to hide them from me. Since then I've raided the teen rack at b&n: Evermore was okay, House of Night was pure (fun) fluff, and I just started (my DS's book) Inkheart. I even read some Gregory Maguire this month. I just got the first Sookie book today from swaptree and I'll put Outlander on my list. Thanks!

I'm waitlisted on Outlander and the 2nd Sookie book at the library based on recs here.

I read the first Libba Bray Gemma book, but couldn't get into it. Same with Golden Compass - just me I think.

I am throughly enjoying Nancy Martin's Blackbird Sisters Mysteries. Not a vampire series at all, but fun. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nancy+martin+blackbird+sisters+mysteries

I also enjoyed Linda Palmer Daytime Mystery series and hope she plans a book 5 http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=linda+palmer+daytime+mysteries

I liked Potter. My sis is a middle school librarian, she passes along recs for books she thinks I'd like. I have Inkheart in my to-read pile based on her rec.

eta: Nurk is a fun children's book I just read. I am planning to buy to read to DS, probably for Xmas but possibly for our vacation this summer http://www.amazon.com/Nurk-Strange-Surprising-Adventures-Somewhat/dp/0152063757/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1241124313&sr=1-1

LOVE the "Outlander" series! I read the first book nearly 15 years ago and still reread books 1-3 every other year (the rest are very good, but I just love the first 3). In fact, when we named DD Claire, my cousin teased me that I named her after the heroine in the Outlander series.

The other series I just started and absolutely Looooooooove is the Dave Barry (yes, Dave Barry) Peter Pan books. (The story of how Peter Pan became "the boy who could fly", came to Neverland, why Capt Hook is his enemy, etc) The first one is " Peter and the Starcatchers" Very Harry Potter-ish, but funnier. Here's the link
