In case anyone wants to see what a pizza cake looks like, here is mine for DS's party last week.

That is so cool! Sorry if I missed this elsewhere, but what is it made of? It just looks so real it's hard to imagine it might be vanilla and strawberry or something.

It's a yellow cake. The cake itself is the "crust". Frosting was colored with red, orange, and brown to get it to look like sauce. The cheese is grated white chocolate. The pepperoni are strawberry fruit rollups :).

It was pretty easy, really. No stars to squeeze like usual!

Mmm, fruit roll-ups! I remember those from my lunches as a kid. I am going to file this away as an idea for when DS gets bigger, because the whole thing just seems like such a neat idea. Much better than the blue igloo cake we made for my dad which had to be held together by toothpicks, and he wouldn't eat it because it was blue!

Very cute! And funny enough, we're going to end up having ds's 1st birthday celebration at a pizza place, so when I first saw this I thought "hey, maybe I could do that!" But no. I will barely have survived my crazy semester at that point and I am buying a cake this time. :) Well except for DS's little cake which will apparently need to be dairy free.
Anyway, love your cake! I'm sure your ds was thrilled!

That is so creative! DH couldn't tell it wasn't a real pizza! He said, "what's special about it?" I said "It's a cake!" :) We think it's super cool!

cool! I saw something similar on the foodnetwork. the woman made a pizza cookie. She rolled out sugar cookie dough, put strawberry jam on it and grated white chocolate on top.

i love cake over cookies though!!!

Kris, that is so awesome!!! I love it! That fact that it's in a pizza box is brilliant. :bighand:

I had read a few ideas of using strawberry jam for the sauce on the cake, but frosting just seemed easier to me. But, I wish I had thought of that for the cookies! He brought pizza cookies for his birthday snack. Sugar cookies with the same frosting, cheese, and m&ms for pepperonis.

Wonderful job! Very real looking.

Out of curiosity, is it made with a round cake pan? I can't tell by the picture if it is actually tall like around cake or if it is flat like a pizza.

Love it!

Love it!

It was a 12" Wilton cake pan. It's about 2" tall and used nearly 2 boxes of cake mix.

Wow. You are creative! Looking at the picture makes me hungry but I'm confused whether it is for pizza or cake. LOL! Maybe both!
