So, tonight I discovered that DS (4 mo) likes to have something soft to caress his face to put him to sleep. He is comforted by my hand on his face, but I thought I'd try a stuffed animal "just to see". Well, he really took to it and fell asleep while hugging one of his stuffed animals. The stuffed animal is actually half his size, and hence too big, so I replaced it with a small 9 inch stuffed bear. he put his arm around the little bear and fell asleep. Can he suffocate on something relatively small? I'm thinking I should get him a lovey, but is this too young? He just started rolling over from stomach to back (though not consistently), but not the other way.

I think we waited until DD was consistently rolling around. I'm guessing 8-9 months. She didn't really become super attached to it until recently. I think I would still worry about a 4 month old potentially covering their mouth and nose....

I think 4 months is too young. Our ped wanted us to wait until 9 months for anything soft.

How about one of those really soft loveys? My DNs love these

and they are very soft yet not bulky.

My son (4.5) has slept with an Angel Dear puppy lovey (Bear) since he was about 2 months old, and my daughter has slept with her pink poodle lovey (Pinky) since about the same age.

Thanks for the Angel Dear suggestion. I will check it out. I don't want to put anything unsafe in there, but he definitely likes to cuddle with something.
