I'm thinking of giving peek-a-boo bags and/or crayon rolls as favors for DDs 3rd birthday. Would your DC like and use them? Would you do one or both? I'm open to ideas, it is going to be a Bon Voyage theme because we will be moving out of state a few weeks later.

Those are awesome party favors - where did you find them? I think you just need to do one or the other, and I'd vote for the Peekaboo bag because it's unusual and fun. Most kids that age have loads of crayons, although the roll bag is certainly convenient, and I imagine it would be something parents would want to hang on to, and not throw away like most party favors end up. My only concern would be the size of items in the Peekaboo bag and any choking risk, but otherwise it looks great! (My DD is 3, but I still find her mouthing small objects - grr.)

Bon voyage theme - hmm. You could include your future address and contact info in the goody bags and a request for kids to stay in touch. In terms of themed favors, I'm drawing a blank. Will post later if I have any bright ideas!

As a parent, I do like that crayon roll! Maybe add an inexpensive coloring book and I think you'd be all set.

Yep, I like both of them and have almost bought both products on Etsy. I lean towards the peek bags just because they are so unique but I like the idea of crayons and a coloring sheet or book.

I think either would be great! I like a pp's suggestion of including your new address with the goody bag/favor. Another thought: could you include a pre-stamped postcard pre-addressed w/ your new address with the favors? I know 3 year olds can't really write much, but they can draw and perhaps include a message with a parent's help (or you could even have them draw on the postcards at the party and either mail them yourself or give them to a trusted friend to mail once you move). How much fun would that be, then, for your little one, when she gets postcards from her friends soon after the move! I think it'd be a great way to ease the transition and help remember friends.

Thanks! I plan to make them. For one thing I'm way too cheap to pay $18 and up for the P-A-B bags. But I made them for DD's first birthday and they are super easy. Plus, if I make it myself I can customize the fabrics and do a nautical theme. And I was thinking of going with a transportation theme for the toys inside. I double stitched the seams for strength.
For the crayon rolls, I've made something very similar only much larger to hold craft supplies. They are both projects good for those of us who can only sew straight-ish lines ;)

Directions to make both can be found by googling. I'll noodle around and if I find them I'll post.

OK, good ideas! What about modifying the crayon rolls by making one pocket big and include some pre-addressed blank post cards? I could also put a little note pad in it for doodles.

LOVE the post card idea!! DD gets so excited to get 'resident' mail.

Maybe you could find a postcard which is colorable? So the kids can color it and mail it in.

Yes! Great ideas. We actually have 2 "I Spy" bags and 2 crayon rolls, from different etsy sellers. Had both over a year and my 4yo and 6yo are big fans.

ETA: D'oh - our I Spy bags are actually from a WAHM over at Diaperswappers... I did order 2 mini I Spy bags from The Crafting Corner (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5519786&ga_search_query=TheCraftingCorner&ga_search_type=seller_usernames) at etsy for gifts, though, and they were adorable.

I think my 3.5 yo would like the crayon roll NOW, but not when she was just 3. She probably wouldn't get into the peekaboo bag. I don't think she'd get the point.

Scroll down where it says 'for a list of retailers click here' and click on the *here* button. I tried to get it to link to the list but only managed to get the link to the link :6: Clearly I'm no computer genius.

You can also find a nice selection on www.etsy.com that are in wonderful shapes like bunnies and ducks and watermelon.

DD is three and I have given several of her friends crayon rolls and they loved them. I ADORE the postcard addition too.

I am not sure how many you are making, but I would call around to any local teacher supply store and see if they have crayons or colored pencils on sale. They often do at the end of the school year.
