Is there a green alternative to trash bags/liners?

I already reuse the plastic and paper grocery bags when I forget to take my own. I need to buy some more trash bags/liners.. so started to wonder if there is such a thing.

You can buy biodegradable trash bags (BioBags is the brand we use). We typically use these for our compost and plastic for trash, but you could use both for trash.
