Yes, but they don't have the range of an incandescent.

according to DH (who is not an expert, just thinks he is:) ) a dimmer will cause them to burn out faster too. Not sure how or why though. We do have them in our LR (cathedral ceiling with track lighting). DH keeps saying he will rewire the switch but hasn't yet. They have been there for a few months. Alhtough the dimmer does still work to some extent, the range is much less, like the pp said.

They make dimmer compatible CFL's now. A normal CFL won't work right and it can cause issues with your dimmer switch.
