Best toys for Air Travel?

I will soon be doing some major air travel and my DS will be 14.5 - 16 months old during that time. His favorite toys are balls and musical instruments... not airplane friendly. What have you found to be the best toys for airplane rides?

Aquadoodle maybe? Board books, a lovey and maybe a few megablocks come to mind. Also, maybe the Lauri toddler tote. It say for ages 2 and up but a lot of the reviews on One Step Ahead talk about kids in the 14 month range playing with it. Maybe someone else could chime in though on whether that's appropriate since I don't have it
