Birthday Gift(s) for twins

Hi. We were invited to a twins' b'day party. They are turning 1. What is the etiquette for gifts and card? Do I do one card for both of them and 2 gifts, or 2 separate cards and gifts, or 1 card and combined gift? The mom doesn't dress them alike so was thinking of getting 2 different outfits for them. They have a zillion toys.

When our twins were 1, we got every combo you mentioned. I don't know if there is an etiquette, but it seems to me that it matters less at 1 than at subsequent birthdays.

My kids actually enjoyed the cards at their 2nd birthday and I could tell they appreciated having them chosen to match their "interests." But at the first birthday, they were more interested in the event than the cards or even the gifts. And their parents were appreciative of everything that was given. :)
