which product would you recomend for going in and out of taxis? (and needed to keep the carseat with you while walking around after you are out of the taxi)

the sit and stroll- http://www.elitecarseats.com/TriplePlay-Sit-n-Stroll.pro#pp-tabs

or go go babyz travelmate-http://www.elitecarseats.com/Gogo-Kidz-Travelmate.pro

also a side question can any regular (not infant) carseat be installed into a car by using the regular seat belt (so you can take it in a out of the car)?

thanks so much!!!!

eta-now i need opinons on combi vs roundabout-look at post 7!

The Sit N Stroll is truly awful. It's virtually impossible to get a good RF install, it's a pain to transform from seat to stroller..it's just bad (the good reviews, I think, come from people who don't know what a good installation looks like...).
And yeah, regular seats can be installed with a seatbelt. Might look into the Combi Coccoro http://www.combi-intl.com/Products/Item.aspx?Item=12 or Britax Roundabout.
Don't you still have some time to go in your Safeseat 1? Or was I just lucky that my kid fit in it till 19 months old? :D

GoGo Kidz is really not practical for taxis. You have to take it off the carseat to install it in the car, and that is not a quick process. And when it is on, it doesn't really make the carseat into a stroller. It's great for getting around airports but not good for anywhere else.

The Sit N Stroll is not great as a carseat and not great as a stroller. But it might work for what you need. What city? It would be better to use subways and avoid taxis and not need a carseat at all.

I saw the roundabout for $159-is that a good enough price to buy it even though I don't need it this second? how heavy is it

i liked that the combi is so light and small, but does that mean that bigger kids will outgtow it quickly?

so any carseat i buy i can just use the seatbelt to get it in?

what do we think about a reg carseat with the go go wheels

p.s-i don't think my ds will be in the infant for too much longer-he can stay in until his head is 1 inch from the top right?

Here's what Leah looked like when her head was an inch from the top... http://picasaweb.google.com/joolstag/LeahInCarseats#5101172519647707202

The Coccoro is actually taller than the Roundabout (Safeseat/Snugride 32 is 20 inches seatback, Roundabout is 21, CoCo is about 22), so it will last a bit longer rearfacing... forward facing they have 15 inch top slots and will last most kids till 4ish.

If at 8.5 months, you're truly getting close to outgrowing the SS1, I would think that the taller shells would be better...

The Safety1st Avenue claims to have a 25" shell for a pretty reasonable $80 and a lightish 13 pounds... what do you CPSTs think on that one?

I just think the Avenue can be much more challenging to install in a high pressure situation (cab). The Coccoro has a belt path like a European infant seat, and the Britax has slits in the cover to route the seatbelt right under the legs in a jiffy, so they are really easy. The Uptown has a sharp narrow belt path and some recline issues (probably needs noodles to not be super upright), otherwise I would have thought of it...same with the Scenera...it's just hard to get your hand in that belt path :/.
