Well, I am getting to the point that I must admit to the world (at least our inner circle of friends) that we are having a 4th child. It took my husband and I a bit to absorb the news that I was pregnant. It was a total surprise, but we are now getting excited about welcoming a new baby.

It actually should be easier this time since the other 3 will be older (9, 6, 4) when the baby is born, but it will be strange to start over again with a newborn. My husband has been so happy we have been a diaper free household for the past 18 mos and we only had one more year of childcare before the 3 kids were in school.

I am going on Monday for my 18 week ultrasound.

For other families with 4 kids, how was the transition from 3 to 4?

Well, I have no advice about going from 3 to 4, as I only have 2. But, just wanted to say congratulations!

Congratulations and welcome to the world of 4!

When people say to me "4 kids!", I just think it is 3 +1. Four is busy but it is manageable, especially with the ages of your older children. You will be back in your baby groove and you will have helpers, which makes a difference.

My children were 8, 5 and 1 when my (unexpected) #4 was born. She was my baby that taught me to be more - more patient, to slow down and enjoy life more, and to appreciate the joy of a baby. After all the business of older children (well relatively speaking), I just loved the fact I could hold, nurse, and love my newborn. I had figured out my life, parenting, and kids more by this point, too, so bringing her into our family was easier.

Yes, I was busy with 4, but it was a good busy, and we made it work out. It is still tiring at times (and my kids are now 15. 12, 8, and 6), but once it becomes your reality, you don't look back. I love having one more chance at everything.

Best wishes to you

Becky

Congratulations!! I only have 2 but I have a 5.5y age gap so I did the starting over thing. It's nice how well he just fits in. It's also kind of neat that ds1 goes off to school and ds2 and I get to have lots of solo time together- it's like he is an only and I get to be totally focused on him. I do like watching the boys together, especially the way ds2 soaks in whatever ds1 is doing. Enjoy #4 and going back to the baby stage!
