Any suggestions for music CDs/DVDs with male leads?
A friend of mine has a son who is incredibly drawn to music and dance with little interest in playing with boys or playing "typical" boy things. We live in a pretty conservative town (where I think DH and I are the token quasi liberals) and apparently she's been getting a lot of crap from folks about his flamboyant ways. For goodness sake...he's FIVE.
Unfortunately, she's one who listens to other folks more than herself. Especially criticism about her parenting skills. I've managed to talk her down from replacing all of the toys he LIKES (instruments, kitchen, etc.) with toys he doesn't (tractors, trucks, etc) and she's going to try to find male role models in music that he could identify with.
Ironically, her DH is fine with whatever her DS1 wants to do. And, his preschool teachers have told her it's FINE. Her DS2 is in the diagnostic process for a myriad of neurological issues (sensory and apraxia are among them) and now feels like with all of the criticism of DS1 and her DS2s issues, she's "done something to damage them."
Thanks,
Jamelin
