Dd2 is in the middle of her 10 day treatment for a double ear infection and Dd1 just finished her treatment for the same thing.
Wondering if is there any benefit to having them wear ear plugs when they swim or is this only suggested for kids that get multiple ear infections?

DDs ENT says no to earplugs. They just trap small amounts of water between the eardrum and earplug.

She's on her 3rd set of tubes (the 3rd set has been in since she was 2 1/2) and she has no difficulty with swimming. Her ENT says that as long as it's "clean" water...no lake, river, ocean, etc....it's fine. She's only had 1-2 ear infections since the last set of tubes vs. nearly constant ones from age 8 months to 2 1/2.

Thanks much. We will steer clear of them.

DS's ent said the same thing about no ear plugs needed unless swimming in a lake/pond/etc. Plus DS wouldn't wear them anyway!

DD1 used custom fitted molded ear plugs after getting tubes (made at the ENT's office). She wore them for at least a year after the tubes, but does not wear them now. Ear plugs can also be helpful if you are having problems with swimmer's ear per our pediatrician.
