We were in TRU today for something unrelated, so I thought I would look to see if they had infant bike helmets. They did, but the one they had is huge! We got DS his first helmet when he was about 2, and it looks pretty much like an adult helmet. But this one I got for DD has all this foam down the sides and around the back. It is a Bell. That is supposed to be a good brand, right?

Should I take it back and go to a bike store?

Is your DD over one? I don't think babies under one are supposed to ride on bikes. If that is not an issue, I would definitely go to a bike store.

I would go to a bike store to make sure you get one that fits her properly. One of the guys that I work with is a major cyclist; his daughter had a Giro helmet. I am pretty sure it was this style, but a different pattern.

Thanks. DD is 18 months old. The helmet is so that she can start riding a tricycle. Honestly the point of the helmet is more to ingrain the idea that when we ride we wear a helmet. I don't think she's going to be taking any spills to the head as the trike is low to the ground. But better safe than sorry.

I was just wondering if infant helmets have changed, or if the one we got for DS several years back was not the right thing.

This is similar to the one I just bought (just a different pattern):

That looks similar to what my kids got at a bike store at that age. It's more protection, I think.

My kids could fall off a trike - turn too sharp and the whole thing goes over. So, she could be falling.
