How much prune juice do you give your baby if he/she is constipated? My DS is 7 months 19 1/2 lbs. He is having pooping trouble after discovering that he loves bananas. I'm trying to reduce the amount of bananas and add prune juice to a bottle. Not working so far. Just wondering if I'm not giving him enough.

I want to say we added like 1/2 an ounce to a 4 oz bottle? It did seem to help.

A little OT but the nurse at my ped's office suggested giving it warm and before bed. I think her exact words were: "I'm not sure why, but it always works by morning!" We had good luck with it. It's probably already warm if you're giving it in a bottle, but what about before bed? GL!

I want to say we gave 1-2 oz in a separate bottle (not mixed with breastmilk or formula). Our ped nurse did tell us to use "adult" juice rather than the kid juice since I guess the sugar is what helps to break everything down. I've heard apple juice works as well though.

We've never had good luck getting DD to drink prune juice. Even now when she is constipated I still resort to stage 2 baby food prunes. She eats them just like she would a bowl of apple sauce.

You can also try any other very sweet fruit juice. You're trying to get more water into his little intestines, and the sugars in the juice do this.

Warm makes the prune juice work a lot better. A few ounces should do the trick.

Thanks for the tips girls. I'll try it warm tonight. I never heard that before.
