Pregnant women are especially vulnerable due to their suppressed immune systems. While only 1% of the population is pregnant, 6-13% of the swine flu deaths have been pregnant women.

Wash your hands frequently. Especially if you are pregnant, be vigilant for flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, fatigue, body aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, or abdominal pain, and report them to your doctor right away because you may need to be treated right away with antiviral medication (it works best when taken within 2 days of symptom onset). Pregnant women, children, health care workers and those caring for small children should be first in line to get the regular flu vaccine and H1N1 flu vaccine when they come out this fall. Stay safe and healthy!
