I'm looking for superhero capes to give away as party favors at my daughter's 3rd birthday party. Any thoughts on where to buy them for around $5 or less? Thanks!

in case you don't find them, like I couldn't...I went to Jo-ann fabrics, bout blue and pink fabric, a yard for each child. I had a batman cape at home and I just cut with fabric scissors along the same pattern as the one I had and at the neck, I put on the iron velcro squares to hold them together. They worked perfectly and came to about $3.75 I think...the material was on sale. Anyway, good luck and just thought I would pass this on, because I had a tough time too.

That's a great idea. My sewing skills are terrible, but it sounds like what you did could work for me. What kind of fabric did you buy that wouldn't unravel?

Have you looked on etsy? I bet you could find an etsy seller who would give you a good discount for buying multiple capes. I've never done business with this particular seller, but here's one who charges $7.50/cape, and says she offers a bulk discount for orders of more than 10 capes:

Sounds like a fun party!

I know you said you don't sew, but if anyone else is in need of capes & has some very basic sewing skills using a machine, this is the pattern I've always used.

I made 5 capes for DS's last b-day & they were a hit. His friends still talk about them

ETA: The fabric came from Joann's & is a lightweight cotton.

Here's a coupon for Joann's for 40% off one item: http://www.joann-mail.com/J0825W/coupons_only.html?r=1550_1079957&i=J0825W012

this is the etsy seller (superflykidz)that lots of people on here recommended for custom capes! Depending on the number of capes you need you might be able to talk to her about $5 a cape!

That seller is awesome...I ordered capes as party favors for DS's birthday. I think I ordered 10 and she gave a 10% discount. Maybe you could try etsy alchemy where you say what you want and your ideal price and sellers bid for the business?

I did something very similar for DS's third birthday two years ago. I bought red felt from fabric.com, traced my son's cape that his grandma had bought him the year before, and ironed on self-fusing velcro at the necks. It was a Superman party, so i remember that with the masks I bought at Party City, the favors came to $4/kid. And no sewing!

The child in front with the black trim on the cape is my son. The other capes are the ones i made.

We used red christmas tree skirts from the dollar store. They worked perfectly. I wish that I had a picture. Some of the stores keep inventory in the back, so even if it is not currently displayed they may still have them around.
