I want to surprise DH and take the train to Chicago- arrive on Friday and leave early Sunday. I haven't been there in years and don't remember anything. This will be our first overnight/alone trip since we had DD! I'd like to stay on Magnificent Mile (I guess due to good references) but not sure where. I've looked a little but wow- there are several.
We'll have Friday night and all day/night Saturday to do whatever and eat wherever too! Recommendations?
We're pretty casual, but wouldn't mind somewhere nice for dinner (although our nice is still jeans/nice pants)- DH eats steak and I love fish.

I stayed here last weekend and it is wonderful:

Fabulous location, nice rooms, helpful staff. We got an amazing rate at hotels.com, $100/night including breakfast.

I live in Chicago and I use Yelp Chicago to choose restaurants. Check it out!

I like the Homewood Suites - their continental breakfast is really nice, rooms are great, and central location.

For dinner you might like MK's.

the most romantic place in chicago (IMO) is Geja's (http://www.gejascafe.com/). It is a fondue restaurant-- not a chain. It's where DH and I had our first date, and somehow he managed to get us the same exact table when he proposed. They have classical and/or flamenco guitar most nights. Get reservations, it's very popular.

I think they only take reservations for the first seating at 5 and then it's first come first serve.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Looks like I may have to try hotels.com for cheaper prices than what I'm seeing on-line through the direct hotel's website. I don't mind spending a little more for our getaway, but we'll be eating out nice a couple nights too.
I've also heard good things about the Hilton Garden Inn- anyone else?

I live in Chicago so have never actually stayed in a hotel here but lots of people I know seem to stay in the Hotel Monaco (http://www.monaco-chicago.com/) when they come here. The Allerton (http://www.theallertonhotel.com/) was also recently renovated & supposed to be really nice. I love Geja's as well and it would be only a very short cab ride (or a longish walk) from the Mag Mile. You can also check out chicago.menupages.com to search restaurants by cuisine, area, etc. and view actual menus. Also check out timeout.chicago.com for info on events, etc. It's a great city - enjoy your stay!
