I have several negatives I need scanned. Last time I took some to Walmart they turned out in a high enough resolution for 4x6 or maybe 5x7 prints but not higher. There has to be places that scan at a higher resolution... So where should I go? Wolf Camera ?

I have several images I want to include in an large format ( 12 x 12 ) shutterfly book and print some cropped 8 x 10s. (I want to be able to edit myself). Anyone know what scan resolution I need?

I used ScanCafe. You ship them your negatives, they scan them in, send you back a CD or DVD along with your negatives, and they also upload them to Shutterfly for you.

DH just mentioned this to me...I think NPR had it covered on All Tech Considered

The only thing is it involves shipping to India (I think that's what DH said).

Here is the company I plan on using when I scan my wedding negatives (they are medium format)....the negatives stay in the US.

I was just looking into this for some APS negatives I have. I've really come to believe that sending them out makes a whole lot more sense than scanning them yourself.

Here's a list of popular negative-scanning services. (http://lifetwo.com/production/node/20070201-saving-the-memories-that-cant-be-recreated-what-to-do-with-your-shoe-box-of-photos)

And here is a detailed NY Times review of ScanMyPhotos (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/14/technology/personaltech/14pogue.html?_r=2&scp=1&sq=scanmyphotos.com&st=cse) which I found useful.

Hmm, that's strange. When I did it, I sent it to some place in California. I had sent in my wedding negatives in medium format. Everything was shipped back to me from California as well.
