I've been a veg since I was 17 due to factory farming. I'm 34 now so, a long time. I'm not opposed to people eating meat on principle. But I don't want anything to do with typical meat offered at the supermarket.

DH is not a vegetarian and it's been an issue between us for years. He loves to cook and he's good at it, but I won't eat most of his stuff. I've finally agreed to try some stuff *if* I can be comfortable with where it came from.

If you know a resource for humanely-raised meat products, PLEASE share! The only one I'm genuinely OK with is Neiman Ranch, mostly due to an account from a skeptical activist who visited the farm and said it was what everyone really wants meat to be like........ animals raised in an actual farmlike environment, nothign at all like the typical factory farm. But that's mail order so not very "green" plus wicked expensive. I'd love other options.

DH picked up "NatureSource" from BJ's - says "Certified Humane" by their own system. But I'm skeptical, seems marketing-driven (for example, says "guaranteed animals never treated with antibiotics" -- well that's silly, what if they got sick? I understand the issue of 50% of the antibiotic usage in the US used for preventative livestock maintenance. But just saying "no antibiotics ever" isn't logical either!)

Anyway, thanks if you've read this far :) and I'd love advice or to hear if anyone else has BTDT.

I was just reading something, and they recommended this website for finding local meats: http://www.localharvest.org/

And here's a site that does only meat: http://www.eatwild.com/

I've always bought Laura's Beef at the grocery store; cuts of meat and ground beef....

The best option IMO is to follow the PP's recommendations for eatwild and localharvest (eta: and if possible buy local and visit the farm yourself). We buy our grassfed beef from a local guy (15 mins away) and it is awesome. We visit the farm regularly, etc. and it is just beautiful, all animals are well cared for, and grassfed beef is healthier for the animals and the environment (and you!). :)

OK. That's BRILLIANT. I can just visit the farm myself!!

And the most exciting thing is that one of the local farms even offers pork. I thought I'd never eat pork again............... pork chops. Ham! Bacon!!! OMG. Still not doing it until I feel OK about it, but I *love* the idea of seeing for myself.

THANKS!!
