I need suggestions for items to include in a gift basket to present the tickets to my mom in. I figure I will get the soundtrack but beyond that I am at a bit of a loss....
Thanks!

Maybe you can get a copy of the playbill somewhere? I bet they sell them online, and they definitely sell t-shirts online.

You could always get her a paperback copy of the book.

Green...lots of green. Green tissue paper, green ribbon, green! Other than the decor, I am coming up blank.

Here's the playbill souvenir website, maybe something here will interest you or give you other ideas. A mug, t-shirt, ornament or a souvenir playbill? I really like the journals on page 2.

If you want something fun, a witch's hat. I have not read the book, but I've seen it and it's HUGE. Your mom should like to read a lot (I do, and it still seemed daunting) if you go that route.

It's a spin off, but you could also include a DVD of the Wizard of Oz...I have never been a huge fan of that movie like some people, but after seeing Wicked I thought it would be fun to watch the Wizard from a different perspective.

The PP's idea of LOTS of green is a GREAT idea!

Amazon says it's 560 pages. Is that huge? It didn't seem huge to me, but everyone's different. :)

What a fun idea!

I have the paperback and it's not too huge. I have not read it (yet, intended to before seeing the musical in May) but have rec'd very mixed reviews on it. The musical everyone seems to love. The book, not so much.

Definitely the soundtrack and I love the idea of lots of green! A copy of The Wizard of Oz would be fun too.
Here's a link to the store on the musical website: http://www.wickedthemusicalstore.com/
Maybe some green candy of some sort? http://www.candywarehouse.com/greencandy.html
And/or some white candy for contrast? http://www.candywarehouse.com/whitecandy.html

There's some cute stuff at this site (http://www.kansassampler.com/Departments/Wizard-of-Oz/Gifts.aspx), but can't vouch for it, particularly this mug: Which Witch Mug (http://www.kansassampler.com/Products/Which-Witch-Mug__71201-675.aspx).

ETA: Tons of stuff that would work at etsy. . . some examples:
"Because I knew you I have been changed for the good" wood plaque (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29855291&ref=sr_gallery_17&&ga_search_query=wicked+witch&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=4&order=date_desc&includes%5B%5D=tags&includes%5B%5D=title)
Wicked scrabble tile pendant (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29361201&ref=sr_gallery_15&&ga_search_query=wicked+witch&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=7&order=date_desc&includes%5B%5D=tags&includes%5B%5D=title)

Okay, I'll admit, it's been awhile since I've seen it, and that was just on an airplane in someone else's hands. :o But I swear the font seemed very tiny. :innocent:

If I were getting the basket, I'd love a copy of the Wicked Soundtrack and maybe the soundtrack from the Wizard of Oz or the Wiz. How often would you get to sit down and watch the video? Just the music would suit me better.

I also had a friend who custom printed t-shirts for her nieces, one said "Black is this year's pink!" the other said "Defy gravity." I think they were both black shirts with pink text and green text.

ETA: I read the book before I knew about the musical and I didn't really like it, I just didn't like the author's style really (he has other similar books that I'd read before) and there were some parts that I just found kind of inappropriate and disjointed. However, I bought the soundtrack for my mom because she expressed an interest and that's why we finally decided to see the show, which was amazing. If you like the book, there is a follow-up "Son of a Witch" which I haven't read. It wouldn't really fit the basket though because the characters from Son of a Witch are not in the musical.

Found one more thing - if you do get the book, look how cute this (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26143848&ref=sr_gallery_7&&ga_search_query=wicked%2Bmusical&ga_search_type=all&ga_page=2&order=date_desc&includes%5B%5D=tags&includes%5B%5D=title) bookmark is!!

My MIL was visiting recently and had a bookmark that style (but not inspired by Wicked, LOL). I had never seen one like that before and commented on it. She said she received it as an end of the year gift from a student (she's a teacher) and that she loved it.

I read the book over the summer and it was, well, not so great. I had to force myself to finish it. I haven't seen the musical but find it hard to imagine how they managed it. I really want to see it.

And it is HUGE. The print is miniscule.

I have seen the musical twice--once in London and once here.

I loved the book and "Son of a Witch" but I didn't "read" them, I listened to them on CD. I would really recommend this. You get a lot more from the musical, especially of Animal vs. animal (which is a huge part of the book and a very motivating point for Elphaba) if you read the book.

So I would put those in the gift basket. I would also put in: striped socks/red shoes. A green "bottle" of perfume/soda, etc (this is what Elphaba's mother drank from the wizard, thus turning her offspring green), a stuffed monkey and you could fashion a set of wings for it, a "magic wand", a small sweeper broom, a copy of the Grimmary (huge book of photos from the original show), a t-shirt (My sister is a witch; Defy Gravity; I'm the Good Witch; I don't sweep, I soar; Everyone deserves a chance to fly; If you believe in the Wizard, I've got a potion to sell you)

Oh, have fun. It's such a good show!
