How much to spend on bday gift?

DD was invited to a bday party for one of the kids in her daycare class. How much does one generally spend for someone they're not close to?

No more than $15, maybe $10. That being said, I don't give crappy/junky gifts....I may buy something on sale and just keep it aside for times like this.
