So the government list of the top 10 vehicles purchased through the cash for clunkers program is:
1. Toyota Corolla
2. Honda Civic
3. Ford Focus
4. Toyota Prius
5. Toyota Camry
6. Hyundai Elantra
7. Ford Escape (FWD)
8. Dodge Caliber
9. Honda Fit
10. Chevrolet Cobalt

But, according to this article (http://money.cnn.com/2009/08/07/autos/cash_for_clunkers_sales/index.htm) at CNN, the DOT counted all the different models of the vehicles as different vehicles. So, the Escape FWD was different than the Escape Hybrid. When the vehicles are counted by grouping the versions together, like they are normally counted, the list is:
1. Ford Escape
2. Ford Focus
3. Jeep Patriot
4. Dodge Caliber
5. Ford F150
6. Honda Civic
7. Chevrolet Silverado
8. Chevrolet Cobalt
9. Toyota Corolla
10. Ford Fusion
What's interesting is the recomplied list has small SUVs and pickup trucks. And, the recompiled list is much more favorable for the domestic car makers.
