And my kids are completely mesmerized!!! They can't even get dressed while watching it this morning. My daughter is singing the song, "silent e" and told me that she can't wait to tell her teacher about it. It's totally worth checking out.

I used to love that show as a kid. How fun!

Why am I so excited? DD is still only 7 months old, so it'll be a little while before she gets into it. Hmmmm...I guess it made quite an impression on me when I was a kid - I'm still singing some of the songs from time to time! :innocent:

I LOVED that show growing up. I'm glad I can share something good on TV that I grew up on.

The blog at Rockabye Baby! music (http://blog.rockabyebabymusic.com/) has some of the songs available as a fun nostalgia-burst ... one that frequently gets stuck in my head is the "-ly" song:

(Linked b/c embedding doesn't seem to work here; likely a bandwidth issue.)

They've been airing it for a little while now, but I think they just moved to every day. DS loves it and I like it too! I have had "Silent E is a ninja" stuck in my head for a week. The only thing I do not like is that DS is always "beat boxing" now because there is a character on The Electric Company who does it and he has seen Biz Markie do it on Yo Gabba Gabba. It just sounds like DS is making obnoxious sounds. LOL.

ETA: I have an old record (vinyl) of songs from The Electric Company from when I was a kid. I hope the old turntable I have tucked away still works! Ds might like to hear it. Hmm... I wonder if I can figure out how to convert to a digital music file...

You can get a turntable gadget that will plug into your PC via USB to do that.

The only one I've seen was at Restoration Hardware, but I am pretty sure a store like B&H or Crutchfield would have something similar ... and better priced!

This is great but I AM SO UPSET that PBS cancelled "Reading Rainbow". It was a favorite of mine as a child.

It's been on for awhile now. Maybe my memory serves my wrong but I see no resemblance to the Electric Company show I remember in the 70's. It bugs me that it's the same name but completely different. I remember kids running around in red and blue stripped shirts singing "come on and zooma, zooma, zoom". Wasn't that the electric company or am I thinking of a different show?

It must be regional because we haven't seen it in LA yet and have access to 4 PBS stations (one in LA, two in Riverside/IE area, and one in OC). DH loved Electric Company and him and DH love Yo Gabba Gabba so I am sure DD would like this. I don't remember Electric Company so it must have been on pre 1977 or 1980 when I really started to remember tv.

You're thinking of Zoom. We watched it all the time.

Am I misremebering or is there a new version of Zoom out too? I loved Zoom as a kid. My brother and I had all the kids on our block fooled for a while with a "mind-reading" trick we learned there. LOL.

ETA: Just checked PBS.com and there IS a new version of Zoom too, though I don't think it airs in my area.

about 6 months ago we checked the original Electric Company shows out form the library - and they are very different from the new show -
DS still enjoys it -

here is the opening credit for the original show - watch for Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman
