Anyone ever bought a childhood loved toy, for yourself?

I just found a doll I thought was lost forever:

I mean, I didn't even know which it was, but I have found some available for what I consider eminently reasonable prices. I'm just trying to decide whether to purchase or not. Maybe one day for my kids but for now, mostly, just for myself.

My folks bought me the pink/white glow in the dark Magic Window made by Wham-O when I was a small child. It is now discontinued. Dd1 had it in her room and wasn't that interested in it so I have been enjoying it here and there for a few weeks. It's so relaxing and takes me back.

I recently bid on the blue/white (not glow in the dark) one on Ebay...it went for over $65.

I think the one I have is worth well over $150 but I would never sell it. Here it is. http://www.cosmicbuddha.com/blog/archives/2009/06/pink-magic-window.html

I still have Jenny, Joey, Mary, and Elizabeth (from that series) from my childhood. They're in storage. Joey had the honor of being Baby Jesus in the church pagent one year :) IIRC they were not terribly expensive back then, so I don't know how much I'd pay to replace them, but let's just say if I had a girl our budget might be in trouble. I had quite a Madame Alexander and Effenbee doll infatuation as a child, but not the budget to match. If I had a girl, I know I'd be looking at dolls, and it would be dangerous.

I have not had the urge to buy childhood toys for myself *yet*, but I have bought DS several FP vintage little people items - though honestly I'm not really sure if I'm buying them for him, or me!

We only had Elizabeth (though we both got Mandys later)> I remember it as being my sisters, but I "stole" it. And then lsot it. And I've always regretted losing it and that's why I am thinking of replacing it, just for me.

What price it was originally doesn't really bother me. They aren't available anymore, so retail price doesn't mean anything. I can find it in the $25 range, which I find reasonable for buying something today. (though of course I want cheaper!)

I recently bought myself a Flatsy doll (I think I may be dating myself here). I found one in a store and put it away in a cabinet (to hide it from the kids). My husband thought I was insane, but the guy at the store counter said he gets 40+ women in all the time how buy them.

Yes! DD has a collection of Honey Hill Bunch dolls, that I bought from eBay. (Most in original boxes--who saves dolls from 1976, new in boxes)?

I bought the clubhouse too but have not given it to her yet. I want to make a fabric replica like these houses...

OMG! I am so happy that you posted this link. I used to love these dolls when I was a kid and for years have been trying to remember what they were called. No one ever new what I was talking about when I described them. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! You've made my day!!

OMG! I had totally forgotten about this. I had a My Friend Mandy! IIRC, it was very similar to DD's American Girl Doll. *I* bought the AG doll for DD's 2nd birthday, but really I think it was more because I liked the doll than she did.

I am SOOO glad--- I had a very similar experience here....Since the moment we found out we were having a girl, I knew I wanted to get them but I could not remember the name either. I had asked friends who were the same age and searched the internet and found nothing... But I posted here a few years ago and someone knew!!

There was a thread on here a while ago about toys and dolls from *our* childhoods, and somebody posted a photo of My Friend Mandy. I about had a heart attack! I had one and dearly, dearly loved her. I was all set to spend a crazy amount to buy one on Ebay and I mentioned it to my sister (the hoarder) and she said she still had mine in a box in her attic! She mailed it to me.

DD and Mandy are big pals now, and it is *freaky* how much DD looks like Mandy.

I also bought a Fisher Price crib toy that had little animals on it. The thwanga-thwanga-thwanga of the bit that went back and forth was from my babyhood. I couldn't resist it, especially for 10 cents! We just took it off her bed when we packed it. DD loved it.

WOW! We had one of those in blue when I was little... I don't think it glowed in the dark though. I have no idea where it went.
