Anyone know anything about fire extinguishers? A really dreadful article in the New Yorker has motivated me to get off my duff and get a couple for our apartment. I know nothing about buying them, though, and whether there's such a thing as low/high quality fire extinguishers, etc. Advice, both on choosing and on where to get affordable ones?

Not sure about where to go for the best price, but I got a box set of 2 a few years back from Sam's Club... kept one, and gave one to my parents.

We got ours at Costco. Hmmm, probably need to replace them.

Got my 2-pack at Costco. Don't have a slightest idea on how to use them. (Think I'll be able to read instructions on the back in case of fire?)

I think we got ours at Target. I would absolutely second your decision to rush out and get a couple to have on hand, especially in the kitchen. They're a pain to clean up from, but the one time we needed to use one, I was so grateful to have one handy.

We got ours at Costco, too. As an aside, my DH attended a safety seminar once which taught that besides the kitchen, the second best place to have a fire extinguisher is in the master bedroom. That way, if there is a fire during the night you could grab it quickly and then use it where necessary.

We got ours at home depot about 2 years ago. I think it was less than $50 but I can't exactly remember.
