"They" say it can be anywhere from 9 to 18 months. That's a pretty big span!

A what age did your DC walk, actually walk, without help and for more than a few steps?

You may make multiple selections if you have multiple DC!

DD1 walked at 11 1/2 months.
DD2 is still not walking at 12 months but I rather expect she will be by 13 months.

ETA: DD2 took her first steps today!!

DS was crawling at 7 months, but decided not to walk until 16 months. I thought the kid was never going to do it!

My ds walked at 16 months, and dd has been taking steps for a couple of months, but is now walking more comfortably for a longer period, though she will crawl if she wants to get somewhere fast. :)

Dd walked at 16 months and ds walked at 17 months. They were born at 30 weeks so if you use their corrected age it's 14 months and 15 months.

They both walked at 9m. Ds2 surprised me b/c he showed no signs in the days right before.

DD walked on her first bday. DS 2 weeks before his birthday.

My kids had ample floor/tummy time to facilitate standing by 7ish months, cruising by 9-10m and walking by a year. Honestly, I'd have been concerned with anything less.

DS1 walked at 8 months. It was extremely difficult. He fell all the time, had zero sense, ran really before he walked, and got himself into trouble like crazy. (Not that this was much different from other kids, but still....)

DS2 started to walk at 8 months, fell a couple of times, decided walking hurt too much, and cruised until 10 months, when he absent-mindedly walked a few steps. Then he started walking all the time, with his hands waving in the air for balance. Very cute.

DS1 was 9 months old on the dot. Which was exactly like me.
DS2 was a week shy of 1.

DS could take a few steps around 11.5 mos, and was *really* walking the week after he turned 1.

DD is 10 mos, and can stand/balance unaided, but doesn't show any signs of walking soon (i.e. is not cruising on the furniture). But, if she just took off walking tomorrow, that wouldn't surprise me either.

19 months. Took a few steps here and there starting at 17 months but no real, sustained walking until 19 months. The delay is kind of odd because DS when evaluated did everything well and typically in terms of movement . . . he just wouldn't walk. Now he seems fine physically and is running, jumping, walking backward, etc. at 23 months.

He was a big baby too . . . one more month and I was going to need back surgery!!

Oh my! I just read through some of your responses... I think I'd go batty if any of my DC walked at 8 months! 10 months for me was enough of a challenge!

Ok, now that I've said that, this next child is going to be walking at 8 months!

DD#1 started walking one week before her first birthday.

For what it's worth, she didn't really crawl much...just went straight to walking.

I set it up as a multiple choice poll so you should be able to vote for each DC!!! If that doesn't work, please let me know, I will see if I can change it.

lucy blew by people crawling and was a VERY avid climber... from 9 months on she was going NUTS and could pretty much get into anything. we were sure she'd walk by one and ... nope. she walked at 15 months. within 2 weeks she was as good on her feet as her friends who'd been walking since a year. it was crazy! and she had NO FEAR about different surfaces, which the early walkers did (e.g., wouldn't walk on the playgrounds that had rubber "Mulch" etc.) the weird thing to me was that once she walked she stopped climbing altogether. for a while...it came back- IN FORCE!

i think it's true that there is a wide range and people shouldn't worry unless there are other things going on as well physically-- i think you'd know!

DD started walking on her own and well at 15 months. I think it was just too slow for her, crawling was faster, LOL. Now she just runs!

DS walked at 10 1/2 months, DD at 11. I think DD would have walked a week or two sooner if she (and the rest of the family) hadn't gotten a pretty rotten stomach flu around that time and laid around sick for a week.

DD wanted to be able to do everything on her own so she started taking steps at 15 mos, but wasn't a proficient walker until she was 16 (almost 17) mos. old. What did it for us was buying her a pair of Crocs. It all clicked!

I didn't walk until I was 15 mos. old, and my dad didn't walk until he was 18 mos. old (my Grandma often jokes that he was potty trained before he could full on walk!)

20 months... (at least that's when he started doing it in front of us) many ppl were surprised b/c he reached many other developmental milestones on the 'early' end of things.

T took steps a number of weeks before he decided to walk. He started walking full on when we were on vacation when he was 13 months old. I attribute it to seeing his older cousin walk while we were visiting. The flight back, with a new walker who did not want to sit down at all was hell.

My 1st child (DD) walked before she was 10 months old.

My 2nd child (DS) walked right at 16 months old.

DD did not really walk well alone until about 22 months with the aid of braces -- she has flat feet and hyptonia. She still wears them and is in OT as well. But now she is walking all over the place, hooray!!!

DS 2 is 9 months and not walking yet, but he wants to!
He loves to stand, but is very wobbley even when holding on to things so I don't think he will be taking off any time soon.

DS1 started crusing at 7 months, and started walking at 11 (but the walking was a very slow process for him).
DS2 just turned 7 months and started carefully cruising at 6 months.

DD walked at 13 months but she was a 32 week preemie so you could correct her age and say she walked at 11 months.
My nephew walked at 9 months. A friends child walked at 17 months. I really think it doesn't matter when they start to walk except that it is more work for mom and dad when they walk.
