Anyone has ever removed the pedals from a two-wheeler?

I searched the forum, but I have not seen anyone posting that they removed the pedals from a regular bike.

Has anyone done that successfully? How about the chain and gears?

I want to see if I can suggest that to a few friends.

O_mom wrote here that while it can be done, it is not exactly that simple. So it might just be easier to buy a balance bike, and then, buy a regular bike (and remove the training wheels).
