Anyone do this? Is $29US "the" price -- I just got an email from Inchbug. Or is it better to order directly from here (https://elfontheshelf.com/copy/shop.php)

Is it fun, PITA, ????

What about the activity book?

The official Elf on a Shelf book definitely talks about the whole 'naughty or nice' thing. We don't like the idea of Xmas gifts being contingent on good behavior (rather, we give gifts out of love, not for rewards), so instead of using the official one, we got a little elf from Etsy. The elf that comes with the book isn't really our taste, either.. the Etsy one suits our style much better. He appeared one morning and we told the kids that he was an elf from Santa's workshop, and that he would report back every night to let Santa know what the boys were like, what sort of toys they played with, etc. We moved him every night and the kids had a lot of fun looking for him each morning. They named him "Elby" and can't wait for him to return.

Do you remember the seller? That would help!

The seller is starlight11500. She doesn't have any elves up now, but the one I got is sort of like the cowboy she has listed, but an elf (obviously). It's small and fit in with our decorations much better than the big elf. :)

OMG, too funny! We were JUST talking about this tonight at dinner. Kids LOVE our elf and can't wait till he shows up at our house. He's definetly magical. our kids know that Santa at mall/parties aren't real, they're just santa's helpers. I'm glad the kids know the true meaning of Christmas and yes the magic added to it by Santa makes it special.

SO worth the purchase!

We've never done "Elf on the Shelf," but the elves in this etsy shop are adorable!

We did magical elves last years. I got some Annalee elves http://www.annaleegallery.com/elves/ from Tuesday Morning for $12ish each (we had 2). I loved thier size (just right for mischief) and the fact that they were poseable. It can be really simple or you can be as creative as you want. Ours came at the begining of December and got into mischief each night.

Just a heads up that there are lots of Annalee elves at HomeGoods. I picked up a little one this afternoon for $5.99.

We started EOAS about mid-Dec. so we, as parents, didn't burn out. DS loved, loved, loved it!!

Ugh. While I love the "magic" of having an elf around the house I hated lying to DD about him, having to worry about getting "caught" moving him around, etc. I'm not thrilled about repeating the process this year, but our elf gets brought up on a regular basis.

We did not use him as an incentive to be good, DD would have hated him/it then. She was a bit freaked out for the first few days as it was. I want elves and Santa to be magical, nice people- not snitches.

Honestly, I'd probably skip it if I could have a do-over. I think my family is stuck with this tradition for the foreseeable future.
