DH's best friend #1 is marrying his fiance of 10 years in 2 weeks. We have known both of them for over 11 years, and we'd like to get them something nice for their wedding...but we are on a very tight budget with DH unemployed right now. Any ideas for a nice gift that's no more than $100?

It's $116 but maybe that's close enough - I am very fond of the Penzey's Wedding Gift Crate (http://www.penzeys.com/scstore/giftboxes/new/weddingCrate.html) . It's a selection of really good quality spices, a new pepper mill and salt shaker all packaged in a crate that uses bay leaves and cinnamon sticks as packaging filler. It's the most marvelous smelling gift to open up!

No registry? I always pick off of there. :)

How about a gift certificate to a really amazing restaurant? They can save it and use it for a special occasion? I know I'd personally like that. Even something like a $50- or $75 one would be really nice.

My brother got us a few bottles of good wine as a wedding present. We enjoyed that.

Visa gift card. The reason I say that is becasue they have been together for so long they probably have the stuff that people would usually give at weddings. The only reason I say that is becasue DH and I were together for 14 years before we decided to get married. Since your DH is BF with the groom does he have any insight to things that they need/want?

I received a decoupage plate like this (from the same artist) with my wedding invitation and it was one of my favorite gifts:

It is truly lovely and something unique. Several of the options are under $100.

When my younger sister got married a year ago I had no idea what to get her. She and her fiance pretty much had anything they needed and could get anything they wanted. I put off getting anything because I just couldn't figure out a meaningful but also budget friendly gift.

Based on a rec I got here, I went with a piece of Alphabet Photo Art (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=13758794) from JavaJaneDesigns at etsy.com that spells out their last name. I ordered it unframed and gifted it that way and then my sister and I went together to pick out a frame later on. I was prepared to have it custom framed for her but she ended up finding a frame off the shelf at AC Moore that she liked (it "floats" behind the glass - no mat needed).

I was very happy with the etsy seller and my sis and her husband liked the gift. I love the options the others have given too - some very pretty stuff.

ETA: We have given and received Penzey's as a gift - great stuff!!

I love to give gift certificates for stays at bed and breakfasts. Maybe they could use that sometime when they want to take a little getaway.

We love wine as a gift. A couple bottles of champagne and a couple bottles of other wines in a basket would be a great gift for us. Pair it with a loaf of bread (that they never know want) and a shaker of salt (that their life together might always have savor), like in "A Wonderful Life", and you've got a very memorable gift.

Would this be appreciated by someone who cooks all the time and has been cooking on her own for the past 10 years? It looks awesome but wondering if the recipients will be thinking "great, another jar of stuff I already have".

:yeahthat:

DH and I were engaged for 2+ years and had lived on our own for over 5 so we had pretty much everything we needed to run a household. We got a lot of cash in cards at our wedding and it was much appreciated.

I'm not a nicknack user and a couple of the gifts posted here would have been put into storage and never touched again. I like it and keep it because it was a gift but what do I do with it?

It's perfect for someone who loves to cook! But it does depends on what types of stuff they buy for themselves in the kitchen. We got it for a friend who is actually a graduate of culinary school & loves to cook - but they're on a tight budget and they just bought spices at the supermarket. Penzeys is higher quality - the difference between a fine wine and a box wine.
